First planting for the Forest&Life program in côte d’ivoire

Article du 25 July 2022

In June 2022, a Kinomé delegation went to Côte d’Ivoire, in the department of Agboville, to participate in the first plantations of the Forest&Life program in the country in the presence of our different partners!

Initiated in 2010 in the department of Landes, in France, the environmental education program Forest&Life “1 tree for me, 2 trees for you, 3 trees for the planet” enables children to plant trees in forests in France, in solidarity with a country in Africa or Latin America. This year, the program was implemented for the first time in Côte d’Ivoire, thanks to the financial support of the company COLAS and the technical partnership with the Ivorian NGO IMPACTUM.

This new partnership is also in line with the national strategy of the Ivorian government, which has placed the preservation and rehabilitation of forests at the heart of its environmental actions, including through the “1 school, 5ha of forest” program led by the Ministry of Water and Forests of Côte d’Ivoire (MINEF).

For this first year of the partnership, and after the planting by their French colleagues last February, more than 100 children from the elementary school of Grand-Moutcho and Laoguié, several Colas employees, as well as representatives of the MINEF and local authorities, took part in the planting activities! In addition to the reforestation of the Yapo-Abé protected forest in the south of the department, an arboretum has been set up in the village of Laoguié, which will enable communities to visit it and learn about the different local species, their specificities and their uses. About 20 local species have been planted on the different sites.

Colas has committed to the Forest&Life program in Côte d’Ivoire for a period of three years. This new partnership will help raise awareness among more than 600 children in the two countries, through the planting of more than 20,000 trees by 2024.
