Resilient Value Chain: Developing a Guide to Sustainable Vanilla

Article du 24 October 2022

We are pleased to share the results of our work on sustainable vanilla in Madagascar. In 2021, Kinomé was mandated by the FCPF (Forest Carbon Partnership Facility) to develop a guide on sustainable vanilla including a cost analysis. This is a participatory work because after an in-depth review of the literature and existing practices on sustainable vanilla production systems and transition trajectories, Kinomé had proceeded between May and June 2021 to a consultation of the different stakeholders of the sector: ministries, private sector, importers, support organizations (research, NGOs). This step made it possible to consolidate the messages of the technical guide as well as the calculation hypotheses for evaluating the cost of the transition to sustainable vanilla in the context of SAVA (northern region of Madagascar).

To facilitate knowledge sharing, we called upon the famous Malagasy cartoonist, Nino, to produce awareness posters and an illustrated version of the guide.
